Info
The system allows users to create interactive books quickly, based on traditional printed books, without the need for special software or specialized knowledge. Additionally, the interactive content generated by the system can be used on different types of devices such as interactive whiteboards, desktop computers, laptops, tablet PCs, and mobile devices in general. Furthermore, the interactive book is encrypted (DRM) using Adobe technology, which allows for strict control over the author's intellectual property rights. The encrypted book can be sold through digital online bookstores due to its digital nature and the fact that it is locked (DRM) to prevent copying. This new product was developed using modern and innovative technologies such as book digitization technology, Adobe DRM technology for encrypting and locking digital books (e-books), and technology for integrating with new portable computers and mobile devices (Apple iPad, Android & Windows mobile tablets, smartphones). The new product caters to the modern needs of companies and individuals operating in the education sector and related educational book industry. It allows for the creation of interactive content to meet the new educational methods that arise from the use of new technologies (internet use, tablets, smartphones, etc.). By using the edubooks4all system, costs for digitizing systems, personnel, and technology to create interactive content are reduced, as well as costs for dealing with copyright infringement incidents in the electronic environment. The product is aimed at publishing houses, educational and academic institutions, private tutoring centers, and training schools of any level. It is available as a permanent license with a prepaid cost and optional continuous support charge, as well as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) that is billed based on certain usage parameters. The main characteristics of the developed product are as follows:
Builder: This is the software application for creating e-learning content. It combines an easy-to-use interface with powerful and advanced writing features to help users with limited technical knowledge create educational content for any subject or process. The application allows authors and education professionals to create interactive content, exercises, and assessment tests quickly and easily. With Builder, virtual "pages" of content can be created, accompanied by text, videos, images, and animations that instructors can customize according to the needs of their students. The interactive content created with Builder is compatible with any existing hardware/operating system to achieve the cross-platform characteristic of the product. Desktop Player: This software application is available for desktop computers (Microsoft Windows) and Apple Mac. It is a program for learners who will be using the e-learning content. Mobile Player: With the evolution of iPad and the production of new PC tablets by all major manufacturers, the reading of digital books has shifted from desktop devices to tablet PCs with Apple iOS and Google Android operating systems. Microsoft also has its own mobile operating system (Windows). Therefore, the core components of the new platform are mobile applications that allow consumers to access the e-learning content created with Builder from any mobile device. All content created with the Builder must be published on a specific web portal. This portal is part of the distribution channels and our client uses it for the distribution/sale of the created content. This portal is offered as an optional module, as in many cases, the client may prefer to use their own web portal for content distribution. The portal is a white-label product and has the functionalities of an e-commerce website. This software has the characteristics of an online store and has been developed in two versions: one for web browsers of desktop devices and a second one for mobile devices (mobile store), in order to provide a convenient browsing experience for users with small screens on their mobile devices (smartphones). DRM: Intellectual property protection for each created content is a key factor that significantly contributes to the success of this Information System. Authors and publishers of educational content do not want to make the same mistakes as the music industry. Digital Rights Management (DRM), technologies, tools, and processes that protect intellectual property during trade, are crucial elements for the new platform. DRM creates a fundamental trust between authors and consumers and is a prerequisite for the strong development of the market. Using Adobe Content Server 4 software, we manage and encrypt the rights of the digital files that our clients can distribute/sell (using the Platform), either in PDF or EPUB format. Supporting PDF and EPUB – the industry-standard formats – Adobe's Digital Book Platform eliminates restrictions on file format and distribution strategies. For the rest of the Digital Content, proprietary DRM is implemented to prevent unauthorized distribution of copyrighted works. HUB: The communication hub of the new Platform software is responsible for the connections between the Player (desktop and mobile/ portable editions), the Gateway, and the DRM System. It also acts as the communication node between the client's existing website and the Platform when the solution is partially developed. It consists of a large number of web services to integrate existing websites, third-party systems, content distribution networks, and payment methods. Console: The Management Console unit allows Platform administrators to upload the Digital Content, create and manage metadata (e.g., book title, author, subject, keywords, and publication date), secure digital files with the Digital Rights Management system, monitor downloads, and handle all management tasks. Cloud: The end users who have access to the E.U Content can add personal notes, bookmarks, and highlights to excerpts. All this information is stored locally on their reading device. To implement a cross-platform strategy, a special feature is used to store all the information in the user's Cloud profile, using a dedicated user account on our Cloud service. This allows each reader to retrieve all the stored information related to any E.U Content on all the devices they may use to access the content. The stored information can be "private," for personal use, or "public" to be shared among friends.
